Are GMOs as bad as they say?
Is regular food going to hurt me?
Is it worth it to pay more for organic food?
Oh! But eating organic is very expensive
But I feel fine!
Let me get into it
To start, a GMO is a genetically modified organism. The DNA of an organism is changed in a laboratory in order to get a benefit. For example, apples are genetically modified so that they don’t get brown fast after being cut; they use fish DNA in potatoes because fish can stand very cold temperatures in the ocean, so when they put it in food, they can be harvested anywhere, at any time of the year. There are many more examples, but I don’t want to overwhelm you.
So, are they safe?
There are no studies showing GMO’s are safe in the long term. As a matter of fact, there are many studies showing many adverse effects. I totally recommend you watching Seeds of Death on YouTube, if you can’t watch it all at once, at least jump to minute 26:29, then make your own conclusions.
Even when people are demanding honesty, companies don’t want to be transparent and prefer to keep hiding or manipulating information for their own convenience. In many other countries, GMO products need to be labeled as such, but in the US the big corporations pay tons of money to the government in order to not label them.
